Privacy policy
Accurate — live Irish public transport. Last updated 8 August 2026.
Accurate has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no cookies. It does not track you between sessions or across sites. This page describes the data it does handle: your location while the app is open, the text of a place search, a bug report if you send one, and the IP address every request carries.
Location
If you grant the location permission, the app reads your position while it is open, to place you on the map, list nearby stops, pick the nearest stop for each route on your departure board, and tell you if you leave a walking route it drew. It requests foreground location only and stops when the app closes. There is no background tracking.
Your coordinates are sent to our server when it calculates a walking time or a walking route to a stop. Routing runs on our own server against an OpenStreetMap extract, so your coordinates are not passed to any routing provider. Results for a pair of points are held in a bounded cache so the same pair is not routed twice; entries contain only coordinates and distances, with no identifier and nothing linking them to a request or a person.
Legal basis: consent, Art. 6(1)(a) — given through your device's location permission and withdrawn by revoking it in your browser or system settings. Everything except the location features works without it.
Place search
When you submit a search, the text goes to our server, which asks a geocoder to turn it into coordinates: HERE for Eircode-shaped queries, and Nominatim, run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, for everything else. Our server makes those requests, so the geocoders see the server's address and not yours. Recent queries and their results are held briefly in the server's memory so a repeated search costs nothing.
Legal basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) — answering the search you asked for without re-asking a third party the same question.
Bug reports
If you send a bug report from Settings, we receive the title, category and description you wrote, along with technical context collected automatically: your theme, text size, which tab you were on, whether you are using a browser, an installed web app or the Android app, the routes you have enabled, the app and transport data versions, your browser's user-agent string, and the time the report arrived. Your location, favourites and saved places are not included. The report becomes an issue in a private GitHub repository, readable by the maintainer.
The description is free text, so please leave out anything you would not want stored — we only need to know what went wrong.
Legal basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) — diagnosing and fixing faults from a report you chose to send.
IP addresses and logs
Every request carries your device's IP address. The app uses it only to rate limit the bug report form; those records are held in memory, expire within a day, and are lost on every restart. The app writes no request log of its own.
Render, our hosting provider, keeps operational logs of requests — address, time, path and user-agent — under its own retention policy. Because search and walking-time requests carry their parameters in the URL, the search text or coordinates also appear in those log lines.
Legal basis: legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f) — keeping the service available and preventing abuse of the bug report form.
Stored on your device
Your settings, saved places, favourites, enabled routes, last known position, walking times already looked up, and which alerts and tour steps you have seen are stored on your device and are not sent to us. The app also keeps a copy of itself — page, scripts, styles, fonts and map library — so it starts quickly and works offline; that copy holds no personal data. All of it is storage strictly necessary to provide the app you asked for. Clearing the app's site data or uninstalling it removes everything.
Who receives data
Accurate's own code connects your device to two hosts: this app, hosted by Render, and basemaps.cartocdn.com, which serves map tiles and therefore sees your IP address and the area of the map you are viewing. Typefaces, the map library and all icons are served from our own server rather than a CDN.
Everything else is fetched by our server on your behalf, so those sources never see your device: transport data from the National Transport Authority, Iarnród Éireann, the Luas forecast service and Transport for Ireland; HERE and Nominatim for searches; and GitHub for bug reports.
The app's server, its storage and its request logs are in Frankfurt, Germany, so the processing described above happens inside the EU. Render, GitHub and CARTO are United States companies, and to the extent they access data from there — Render in operating the service, GitHub in holding bug reports, CARTO in serving map tiles to your device — those transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses in each provider's data processing terms. HERE Global B.V. is established in the Netherlands. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is in the United Kingdom, which the Commission has found to provide adequate protection.
How long data is kept
- On your device: until you clear the app's site data or uninstall it.
- Server caches (walking times, searches, rate limiting): bounded and held in memory; discarded on eviction, expiry or restart. None contains an identifier.
- Bug reports: for as long as the issue is useful for fixing the problem.
- Hosting logs: under Render's retention policy, which we do not set.
What the app does not do
- No accounts, advertising, analytics or cookies.
- No sale of personal data, and no sharing of it for anyone else's marketing.
- No automated decision-making or profiling.
- No location tracking while the app is closed.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction, or a portable copy, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent — the location permission — you can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect what was done beforehand.
In practice a request can only concern a bug report, as that is the only thing here tied to a person, and only if you put something identifying in it. There is no account to look you up by, so tell us the issue number or roughly what you wrote and when. The caches above hold no identifier that could match an entry to you.
You can complain to the Data Protection Commission, Ireland's supervisory authority, at dataprotection.ie.
Children
Accurate is a public transport app, not directed at children, and collects no age information because it has no accounts and asks for no personal details.
Who is responsible, and changes
The data controller is Conrad Brockman, Dublin, Ireland. For questions about this policy or a request about your data, contact support.getaccurate@gmail.com.
Changes are published here and the date at the top of the page is updated. A change that materially affects what happens to your data will also be announced inside the app.
